When creating a special blast email to go out, some people get confused about one of the options in the email filters, the difference between:
Send 1 email per email address
Send 1 email per player
Sending one email per email address means that if a Dad did waivers for himself and 2 kids, he will just get one email. If however, you choose send 1 email per player, then the dad will get 3 emails – one for him and one for each kid.
Now with a cost of about .001 per email – it may not seem like much of a difference, but if you have a large database, it can add up. You can see that we have 130,000+ names that are on the list, so sending out to all of them would be a $130 mailer. If I would could for one to each email address, the count, and price is less than half.
So why would you ever send 1 to each player?
Great Question!! The reason you would do that is if you wanted to run a coupon or special discount and it was to contain the persons name. You can insert the player name off the waiver with the variable: {{PlayerName}}
So, if you wanted to send a blast email that said:
Here is $5.00 off coupon for {{PlayerName}} Valid until {{TodayShort+20}}. Bring this email printed or on your phone to redeem.
Then sending one for each name would make sense, as then the Dad in the above example would get 3 emails, one with his name, and one with each of his kids name, so they all get a $5.00 off coupon. And if doing this, don’t forget that you can use the name variable in the subject as well. ie: $5 Savings for {{PlayerName}}
By having the subject use the PlayerName variable as well, it will let the Dad know that this is not the same email 3 times, and personalized emails have a much higher open rate than generic ones.
Additionally, if you would just send it with no name, there would be nothing stopping someone from printing the coupon 10 times and sharing it with a bunch of friends that have never been there… which may or may not be a bad thing.
